Agency Principal
Bruce Agness
Bruce Agness was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where he attended Westbury High School and worked in his family real estate business buying, selling and managing single and multi-family units. In 1979, Bruce went on to earn his BBA in Finance at Sam Houston State University.
After graduating from Sam Houston State University with his BBA, Bruce had a short stint in accounting before starting his career in the insurance industry. He spent two years as a claims representative before joining the sales team at Texas Employers Insurance Company.
In 1984, he joined the ranks of Indiana Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company as a territory rep in Austin, Texas. During his more than 20-year career at ILM, he moved into management. He also became very involved with the Lumbermen’s Association of Texas, where he was elected to the Board of Directors and was named Associate Member of the Year.
In Austin in 2005, Bruce founded Lumber Insurance Services, a retail insurance agency serving the lumber industry throughout Texas. He has expanded the agency to over 30 states, and it is now the largest retail lumber insurance agency in the United States.
In 2015, Bruce and his sons founded Waterloo Insurance in order to diversify and grow the reach of their customer base. Waterloo Insurance specializes in commercial property and casualty insurance in Central Texas.
In 1998, he co-founded Mobile Loaves and Fishes with a group on five men, including Alan Graham. MLF is a non-profit formed to serve food and provide dignity to the homeless and working poor in Austin, Texas. Bruce helped grow MLF into a truck operation with over 20 trucks and 20,000 volunteers. He is currently the Chairman of the Board for MLF.
In 2015, MLF expanded to build and open a 30-acre community that houses 250 chronically homeless. It is a true community with everything a community has to offer: a store, outdoor movie theater, many laundry mats, chapel, community center, garden, chicken coop, dog park and much, much more. It has been so successful that Phase Two in now in the works.
After a busy week of work and MLF, in his free time Bruce loves to spend his time in the Texas Hill Country at the family ranch on the Willow City Loop. He enjoys entertaining family and friends in Fredericksburg and showing off the beauty of his favorite part of the world.
