Meet The Staff

Bruce Agness was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where he attended Westbury High School and worked in his family real estate business buying, selling and managing single and multi-family units. In 1979, Bruce went on to earn his BBA in Finance at Sam Houston State University.

 

After graduating from Sam Houston State University with his BBA, Bruce had a short stint in accounting before starting his career in the insurance industry. He spent two years as a claims representative before joining the sales team at Texas Employers Insurance Company. 

 

In 1984, he joined the ranks of Indiana Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company as a territory rep in Austin, Texas. During his more than 20-year career at ILM, he moved into management. He also became very involved with the Lumbermen’s Association of Texas, where he was elected to the Board of Directors and was named Associate Member of the Year.

 

In Austin in 2005, Bruce founded Lumber Insurance Services, a retail insurance agency serving the lumber industry in all of Texas. He has expanded the agency to over 30 states, and it is now the largest retail lumber insurance agency in the United States.

 

In 2015, Bruce along with his sons founded Waterloo Insurance with the goal of diversifying and growing the reach of their customer base. Waterloo Insurance specializes in commercial property and casualty insurance in Central Texas.

 

In 1998, he co-founded Mobile Loaves and Fishes with a group on five men, including Alan Graham. MLF is a non-profit formed to serve food and provide dignity to the homeless and working poor in Austin, Texas. Bruce helped grow MLF into a truck operation with over 20 trucks and 20,000 volunteers. He is currently the Chairman of the Board for MLF.

 

In 2015, MLF expanded to build and open a 30-acre community that houses 250 chronically homeless. It is a true community with everything a community has to offer: a store, outdoor movie theater, many laundry mats, chapel, community center, garden, chicken coop, dog park and much, much more. It has been so successful that Phase Two in now in the works.

 

Bruce’s wife Regan has supported him over the past 30 years and helped manage the ups and downs of his career and life, as well as raise three wonderful kids. Chris and Jeremy both work in the family business. Their daughter, Leiza, is currently attending Westlake High School and plays for the Varsity Band.

 

After a busy week of work and MLF, in his free time Bruce loves to spend his time in the Texas Hill Country at the family ranch on the Willow City Loop. He enjoys entertaining family and friends in Fredericksburg and showing off the beauty of his favorite part of the world.  

Chris Agness was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where he attended Westlake High School. In 2007, Chris attended Auburn University and earned his BBA in Finance. He would often return home in the summers to work at the family agency, Lumber Insurance Services.   

 

After graduating from Auburn University with his BBA, Chris moved to Philadelphia where he worked for Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company (PLM). During his time with PLM, he worked with the underwriting, marketing and claims teams building a great understanding of how the insurance business works. 

 

In 2012, he moved back to Austin and started full time at Lumber Insurance Services. Since coming back to the family business, Chris has helped expand the agency to over 30 states. It is now the largest retail lumber insurance agency in the United States.

 

In 2015, Chris, along with his father and brother, founded Waterloo Insurance with the goal of diversifying and growing the reach of their customer base. Waterloo Insurance specializes in commercial property and casualty insurance in Central Texas.

 

Chris has become very involved with the Lumbermen’s Association of Texas (LAT), where he currently sits on the Board of Directors. He also sits on the board of The Independent Insurance Agents of Austin (IIAA). In high school, Chris achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and continues to stay involved with scouting via National Eagle Scout Association (NESA). Chris has been a longtime supporter and volunteer at Mobile Loaves and Fishes, as well as KIPP Austin Public Schools. 

 

Chris was married in 2017 to Katie Brown Agness. They met while attending Auburn University. Chris and Katie live in Austin with their dogs Bonnie and Charlie and enjoy traveling and spending with friends and family. 

Jeremy Agness was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where he attended Westlake High School. In 2010, Jeremy went on to attend Colorado State University. He would often return home in the summers to work at the family agency, Lumber Insurance Services.   

 

In 2013, he moved back to Austin and started working for Mobile Loaves and Fishes (MLF), a non-profit formed to serve food and provide dignity to the homeless and working poor in Austin, Texas. Jeremy specifically worked as a carpenter on the Community First project, a 30-acre community that houses 250 chronically homeless people in Austin, Texas.    

 

In 2014, Jeremy began working full time at Lumber Insurance Services. Since then, he has helped to retain and grow the business while furthering his knowledge of the insurance industry.

Jeremy has become involved with the Lumbermen’s Association of Texas (LAT). Jeremy is an avid outdoorsman, and after a busy week of work, he loves to spend his time in the Texas Hill Country at the family ranch on the Willow City Loop.

Mike Edwards was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where he attended Westlake High School. In 2013, Mike went on scholarship to play Division 1 lacrosse at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. After lettering his first two season, he retired due to injuries and transferred closer to home to Texas A&M University. In May of 2018 he graduated Cum Laude with a minor in Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences and a certification in Parks and Conservation.


During college, Mike worked as a hunting and fishing guide. In the fall he would guide quail and waterfowl hunts on the Trail Ranch in Albany, Texas, and in the summer he would relocate to Estes Park, Colorado to guide backcountry fly fishing expeditions for Sasquatch Fly Fishing. Additionally, he worked one season as a fly fishing guide on the remote Tsiu River in southeast Alaska.

 

In 2018 Mike joined the Waterloo team as the newest producer. His goal is to bring top quality customer service combined with an approachable demeanor to the client base of Waterloo Insurance.


Mike is involved with his local church, as well as coaching youth lacrosse in the greater Austin area. In his free time, he is an avid outdoorsman, continuing his fly fishing and hunting adventures as often as he can!
